📚 Learning, reading and school activities

Alpha Library

Barcaldine Regional Council’s local library gives members access to books and online resources. With a library card and PIN, families can use Storybox Library to hear Australian children’s books read by storytellers, as well as borrow e-books and audiobooks. Alpha State School – student sport

Enrolled students from Prep to Year 10 take part in weekly physical education and inter-house sport, with extra-curricular opportunities at inter-school and regional levels. Activities listed by the school include swimming, cross country, touch, football, cricket, netball, tennis, soccer and parkour. Outdoor education also includes paddle boarding and orienteering.

Alpha Multipurpose Health Service

Queensland Health lists child health and speech pathology among the services available in Alpha. Appointments are required, and families should phone 07 4809 7000 before arranging one. No referral is listed. General office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program

Queensland parents and carers of children up to 18 can access Triple P free of charge. Flexible options include self-paced online courses such as Teen Triple P, while provider-led sessions may be offered in person or by video conference where available.

Parentline

Parents and carers can receive confidential professional counselling about parenting concerns, school challenges, family conflict, separation and co-parenting. Call 1300 30 1300 or use the webchat service.

Family and Child Connect

Carer Gateway

This Australian Government program supports unpaid carers, including adults caring for a child with disability, illness or other support needs. Counselling, coaching, peer support, skills courses and respite options may be available, although eligibility applies to some services. Call 1800 422 737 to discuss suitable options.

Kids Helpline

Young people aged 5 to 25 anywhere in Australia can access free, confidential phone or online counselling. Call 1800 55 1800 or use webchat, available 24 hours a day.

Family Relationships Online – Family Relationship Advice Line

Families dealing with relationship issues, including parenting after separation, can obtain information and referrals. Call 1800 050 321 for help finding services such as Family Relationship Centres, family dispute resolution and child-focused separation support in your area.
